Christmas Words – Christmas Word Wall Vocabulary

This extensive Christmas and winter holiday vocabulary list can be used in many ways in the classroom. It can be used to create word walls, word searches and puzzles, Hangman, Bingo, craft, worksheets, creative writing word bank, and many other elementary lesson plans.

You can customize the vocabulary that you use based on your school’s policies. Public and private schools may not allow you to use secular references for winter holidays. Faith-based schools might prefer that you do not include popular mythological references to Santa Claus, Frosty, or any other secular holiday characters.

Word walls: Create vocabulary by designing a wall or a part of a wall that will post large print words for all students to read from their desks.

Create your own word search puzzles with one of the many online puzzle generators. These puzzles can be customized to suit your school and class. Some schools might not allow you to make secular references to winter holidays.

HangmanThis game is a simple way to use Christmas words. It can also be used in classrooms as a fun and interactive break from lessons.

Story or poem written-word exercise: Ask students to draw three or more words to make a story. These can be assigned to be shared with the class or turned in. You can have poems that rhyme or not, or they may be in haiku or limerick format. For assignments in writing, you can request a minimum word count.

Make an impromptu speech for the class. Have students draw up to five words. Give them time to prepare or have them draw the words.
